The kitchen, three years on…

The kitchen was second hand so understandable that it was not ideal to fit. One of the worktop plinths stopped between and not on a cabinet side panel, so that horizontal (which is just chipboard) sagged. Other angles were off level (front to back) and the cabinets were not secured at points against the wall. I decided to change the worktop to a more rational set, and to do this the cabinets had to be properly secured and levelled, which they should have been in the first place. Currently, as my expense, the wall cabinets were secured and levelled this week (ending 20 April 2024), which took the morning for two men, and the new worktops will be fitted on Monday (by a reputable company).

My electrician says he can run a five (strand) by 2.5 cable (if I am correct in those numbers) to the island, meaning I can put the oven in the island and have a space for both washing machine and dishwasher in the 60cm wall units. (currently, as left by the builder, the oven space on the island is wasted as a cupboard only) This was supposed to have been done by the builder, but they only put the two 3-pin sockets in the island, and the 3.5kw oven needs a 2.5 cable. It just needed a different cable. The builders opened the laminate wood floor to correct the first attempt, which had no wiring to the island, but then they did not put the cable to cater for an oven. The problem is that Seamus Hampson, qua Clearson Holdings Limited, lost interest in the job and had problems employing the electrician for long enough, and with enough planning and discussion.
