Roofing work, 3 years later…

I went on the roof with the Velux kits yesterday to finally understand what had been installed, what was missing, and how to fix it from the kit I purchased from Velux.

In conclusion, it appears that the kits were available to the builders but they only installed part of one. I purchased new kits for about £50 each from the UK. With a bit of an effort, I can fit them.

The kit is the final surround of the frame on 4 sides, so it is the first line of defence from rain etc. The builders had put two sides on one of the five Velux windows, so I need to complete the job with the two sides on that window and four sides on 4 others. Velux instructions are good up to a point, but the trick is that you need to bend the metal to get a first fix of the frame above, below and to the side. A bit difficult to explain, but the frame fits on the top of a rim, but would fall off if not simultaneously fitted to the bottom rim, and also the corner needs to be fitted – a bit like slotting something top and bottom and 90 degrees in the other direction at the same time. It’s not push and click, it is more bend the edge as required to get it to marry the other edge, then crimp it back to shape once on. It’s a good fit form Velux in the end. Some of the torch on has to be detached from the frame as it gets in the way of part of the fitting.

Just another example of how Seamus Hampson and Clearson Holdings Limited was paid for the work but failed to complete it.
